British Figure Skating Championships

For the first year International School of Skating had 7 skaters across ISS Coventry and ISS MK competing at the event.

Training out of Planet Ice Coventry and the newly Refurbished Planet Ice Milton Keynes skaters demonstrated hard work and dedication along with team work involving coaches and parents.

The Competition came to and end on Sunday with the Senior Men's Category, and what a event. After the Short program on Saturday ISS Coventry’s Phillip Harris was in 1st place and Harry Mattick in 2nd place. This set the scene for Sundays main event with the Free Program. Philip Harris skated well including a a clean triple axle and a final score of 197.91 and led on to him taking a 1st place making him 2014 Senior Men's British Champion. Harry Mattick followed with a final score of 171.72 and made it 2 podium finishes for ISS with a 3rd place. Well done, what a great skate!

Representing ISS Coventry in the Junior Ladies category saw Malika Sharshenbaeva, Bethan Whiteman and Lowri Jones. After both the Short and Free Program Malika scored 87.33 with a final finish in 10th place, followed by Bethan in 12th place with a final score of 84.93 and then Lowri in 16th Place and a score of 78.85.

Following them in their footsteps was Kia Blackburn from ISS MK skating in the Advance Novice Ladies category. After the short Program Kia was in 19th place but managed to move up the leaderboard after her free skate with a final finish in 17th Place. Well done Kia.

Basic Novice Ladies Category opened the event on Wednesday and representing ISS MK was Elizabeth Matcham. Elizabeth skated well and earned herself a 1st place making her Basic Novice Ladies Champion. Well done Elizabeth!

ISS would like to congratulate all our skaters for taking part, that is an achievement in itself, and well done to our medalists, Senior Men’s Champion Philip Harris, Bronze Medalist Harry Mattick and Elizabeth Matcham,Basic Novice Champion!
