Planet Ice award ISS MK Contract for figure skating at the new Milton Keynes Arena...

For the past year since Planet Ice Milton Keynes closed its doors for refurbishment, the International School of Skating took residence at MKICE, a charity rink which was formed to house the major ice user groups in Milton Keynes during the period Planet Ice was being refurbished. The figure skating community had a huge presence at the temporary rink, leading the learn to skate courses and keeping figure skating on the map in Milton Keynes.

The 18th October 2014 will see the doors of the newly refurbished Planet Ice rink open to welcome ISS back.

The International School of Skating are delighted to be moving back to Planet Ice Milton Keynes, the state of the art rink will provide the much needed space and facilities for our school to grow and develop talent within Milton Keynes.

Managing director of Planet ice John Neville said, “we have awarded the operational contract to ISS amid some very strong candidates, the proposal from ISS is new and refreshing and will see them work alongside the rink management and Milton Keynes Lightning ice hockey team in developing an “Out-Reach” and School programmes. Neville continued, “We look forward to the 18th October 2014 when the newly refurbished Milton Keynes arena will once more welcome the International School of Skating, its coaches and skaters.

The new arena will be opening its doors to skaters on Friday October 17th at 7:00pm for a fantastic disco skate and the following day ISS will hit the ice with the new Skate Excellence ‘Learn to Skate’ program which is already being across other Planet Ice Learn to Skate lesson across the UK. John continued ‘Planet Ice will be making Learn to skate lessons available to both young people and adults through the week and at weekends and people looking to take classes can find more information from our website at We are also the first brand in the Uk looking to introduce learn to Speed Skate. Speed is a very fast and exciting sport that GB happen to excel in at World Championship level. We are currently working with the GB director and the govern body to identify potential talent for the future through the courses. This means young people with potential could find themselves as they next European or World Champion."

Vicky Ogden, ISS Director and Dancing on Ice professional said:

“I have lived and skated in Milton Keynes for over 20 years and I am proud that working alongside Yuri we have been awarded the operational contract and can bring ISS back. It has been amazing to have the support of the temporary rink during the closure. I am extremely proud of how the figure skating community have kept strong and maintained positivity throughout the year, we have an incredible team spirit that we are bringing back to the arena.”

Yuri Bureiko, ISS Director and World and Olympic Coach commented:

“After being housed at Planet Ice for over 9 years, we are really happy to be returning to the new Milton Keynes arena. When John (Neville) invited to the coaching team to the new arena last week, the coaches and myself were blown away with how impressive the new facility is.”

Bureiko continued,” With the new facilities available and a superb Olympic size ice pad, we cannot wait to continue our Milton Keynes journey and develop skaters of all ages and standards in order to achieve their future ambitions”

We look forward to welcoming back all our skaters and parents - Happy skating!
