New Coach

Posted: 18th January 2015

ISS are delighted to announce that the new year brings a new member to strengthen the coaching team at ISSMK.

We would like to welcome Eriq Lyons who will be a valuable member to the ISSMK team.

Eriq was born in Vancouver, Canada. Growing up in Canada, the son of a former professional hockey player, it was only a matter of time before he was wearing skates. Starting as a hockey player, he began figure skating at age 8 and did both sports at a high competitive level for most of his young life. As a competitor, Eriq gained acclaim becoming the 2001 Junior National champion of Canada, and competed internationally for his country for three years. At eighteen, an injury, which forced Eriq to retire from competitive figure skating, prompted him to begin a successful coaching career in Vancouver. Working with skaters of all levels from the grassroots to current Olympian Liam Firus, Eriq gained notoriety for having a keen eye for technique, and being an interesting and inventive choreographer. In addition to coaching figure skating, Eriq has also worked with hockey teams all around the Vancouver area.

Eriq has skated as a professional skater and thrived as a performer in the world of show skating, working as a principal soloist and a pair skater for Ice Theatre, Disney on Ice, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Stageworks Entertainment, Cousins Entertainment, Illusion on Ice and other renowned shows around the world. He continues to do shows, and was seen performing here at the Milton Keynes Theatre in 2014 in Robin Cousins’ Ice.

Eriq and his wife Marion have now moved to Milton Keynes where they plan to settle, and we are fortunate to have him as a full time coach at ISSMK this year. Eriq says that he is excited to begin coaching once again, and looks forward to imparting his knowledge and experience to help shape and guide the young skaters of tomorrow here in Milton Keynes.

We hope you all join us in making Eriq feel welcome.
