Skateathon is a huge success

Posted: 1st August 2011

ISS recently showed their support for Birmingham Children's Hospital and took part in the Skateathon at the Leisure Box in Birmingham along with special guests Dancing on Ice star Laura Hamilton and former judge and ice dancer Nicky Slater.

The Skateathon was held to raise money for the city's Children's Hospital and offer a helping hand to the thousands of patents who use the Hospital every year.

The event was attended by 100's of skaters who each skated 130 laps, or ten miles, to raise money. Ice hockey stars from Elite League side Coventry Blaze along with the English Premier League's Telford Tigers and National League Solihull Barons also took part.

This particular charity is one that is close to the heart of Leisure Box and ISS coach Colin Sturgess, he went on to say:

"My son Luke had an operation at The Children's Hospital in Birmingham two years ago and it was that which inspired me, my wife Rachael and daughter Danielle to take part in the Skateathon at the Leisure Box in Birmingham.

It was great to see so many people taking part in the skateathon raising money for the charity, including one of our skaters Emma Deeley who's mother is Wendy Sessions a former ice dancer and Olympic competitor who along side Nicky Slater.

Lets hope the Skateathon comes back next year so that we can support the charity once more."
