Yuri Bureiko at South African skate camp

Posted: 1st June 2011

Yuri Bureiko, founder of ISS, recently took part in a camp at Pretoria and Kemptonpark, Johannesburg, South Africa, from 9-20th May 2011. The camp was organised by Susan Marais and "Gauteng North Figure Skating Association" and was a huge success for all the skaters that took part.

Yuri worked closely Lejeanne Marais, who is South Africa's number 1 Senior Ladies champion, and is also a Four Continents and World Championship competitor. Yuri utilised his creative choreography skills and worked with Lejeanne to produce her short programme for the forthcoming season.

Yuri was able to grab 4 days off, which he thoroughly enjoyed, and was fortunate enough to go on safari and saw some amazing animals in their own habitat, which was an extreme contrast from his usual working environment of a cold ice rink to then experience giraffes and rhinoceros first hand.

Yuri went on to say -

"It was great to be able to go over there and share my knowledge and skills and coach some great skaters, who all had amazing enthusiasm. I would like to thank the skaters and families for their fantastic hospitality, and who all looked after me so well. It was an amazing experience and working with Lejeanne was a great pleasure, I wish her the best of luck for the forthcoming season"
